Described as “...demonstrating a facility with a multitude of musical languages” by British avant-garde music magazine The Wire, cellist Camille Dietrich enjoys a rising career as a soloist, chamber musician, and teacher in New York.

Camille has a Bachelors and Masters Degree from the Manhattan School of Music where she had the privilege of working with esteemed teachers such as David Geber, Julia Lichten, and Marion Feldman. In addition to her classical training, Camille expanded her involvement with contemporary music by working closely with composers to perform new compositions.  She also studied cello and ear training pedagogy to hone her skills in teaching, contemporary music techniques, and improvisation.  

Ensembles:

Camille performs extensively with large and small ensembles throughout the New York Tri-state area. She has performed with the Ridgefield Symphony and was a featured soloist with the Rockland Symphony and North Jersey Symphony. Camille recently performed with the Grammy Award winning 8-Bit Big Band at MAGFest (music and gaming festival). She performed with the band Neighbourhood at Forest Hills Stadium, most famously known for their song "Sweater Weather". Camille performs often with a number of duos, trios, and quartets.

Contemporary:

Camille has a particular affinity for contemporary music, and has worked with various contemporary chamber groups. As an alumni of contemporary music education program, Face the Music and the Face the Music Quartet, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Merkin Hall, Symphony Space, the Baryshnikov Theater, (Le) Poisson Rouge, Roulette, and toured in Washington, D.C. Alongside the members of the Kronos Quartet, she performed the world premiere of Pelle Gudmundsen Holmgreen’s string quartet “All in One,” a piece commissioned by the Kronos Quartet. She was also a guest performer at the Kronos Quartet’s 40th Anniversary Concert at Carnegie Hall. In 2022 she performed the world premiere of the opera The Final Veil at the Cell Theatre in NYC. Camille performed and recorded Steve Reich’s “Triple Quartet” with the JACK Quartet, which was broadcasted on WQXR radio. 

Improvisation:

In 2017, Camille and her father, avant-garde saxophonist Don Dietrich released their duo album, DIETRICHS, on Pica Disk Records, which was reviewed in the November 2017 issue of The Wire. Camille and her father were also recognized in Jazz Right Now’s list of Best Live Concerts of 2018. In 2021, DIETRICHS performed a livestream concert through Feeding Tube Records QuaranTunes Series, and later released the concert recordings on a 12” Lathe LP through Feeding Tube Records. The livestream concert was in the Top 10 list of Art Forum Magazine’s “Alan Licht’s Best Live Music of 2021”.  DIETRICHS recently released their third album Catch the Leaves, on Relative Pitch Records. In 2021 Camille joined the quartet New Monuments, which released their album "Language is the Skin" on Torn Light Records, and later toured the east coast in promotion of the album release.

Teaching:

Camille has a special interest in teaching and enjoys working with both children and adult students of all levels. She teaches using traditional and Suzuki methods. Camille’s teaching philosophy focuses on the mind-body connection and she helps her students develop personalized practice techniques. Camille currently teaches at the Larchmont Music Academy, and also directs the LMA String Choir, which recently performed at Carnegie Hall. Camille is also a faculty member at DZ Strad Violin Shop and teaches for Forbes Music Company.
